We’re now firmly into show season in Cumbria and the Lake District right now. Great news is none have had to be cancelled due to the weather! In fact each show so far has been blessed with a “fair” day! Let us all hope that continues!
But looking ahead and it’s ultra busy in the world of sports events and county fairs & shows. If you’re staying or looking to have a holiday or short break around in July, August and September, there are some fabulous events to attend across the region.
In July the highlight is Ambleside Sports. This event is huge in the fell running and outdoor sports event calendar but for also for spectators too. It has grown and grown and now it’s a family day out with lots of lovely food to eat and purchase, traditional Cumbrian wrestling and dog shows. Onto August and look out for and head out West to the Cockermouth Show on August 4th.
Steeped in tradition, this is a true agricultural show with sheep clipping, hound trails, horse jumping and lots more. As with so many of the county shows and fairs, this event has been going since 1849. Finally onto September for the biggest events in the Cumbrian show calendar, the Westmorland County Show on Thursday 13th September 2018. So much to see and do for all from food lovers (there’s a food theatre with demos throughout the day and lots of local food producers) to farmer, animal lovers to crafters.
It’s worth looking out for the smaller shows too such as Lakeland Country Fair in Torver near Coniston on Sunday 19th August and a festival with a difference, the Holker Chilli Fest September 8th and 9th which is sure to be one of the hottest events this year!
With all of these events, you’re sure to be entertained the whole day, sure to be well fed and watered and no doubt sure to come home with plenty of yummy goodies.
